Charting a path to measurement: Next steps in standardizing quality measures for complex care
Building the complex care field Data analysis & integration Measurement & evaluation
The Blueprint for Complex Care laid out a number of important opportunities for advancing the field of complex care, including the need for standardized quality measures that can be used to evaluate and demonstrate the impact of complex care programs beyond cost and utilization. As a first step toward this goal, a new report from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and the National Center for Complex Health and Social Needs assesses the current state of complex care measurement and recommends a path forward.
This webinar led by report’s authors, Heidi Bossley and Keziah Imbeah, and responses from field experts who provided context on the current challenges of complex care measurement, described the report’s major recommendations, and discussed current activities and next steps for the complex care field. Therese Wetterman of Health Leads described lessons from a learning collaborative of primary care teams who incorporated patient-reported outcome measures. Rebecca Ramsay of Housecall Providers provided reflections based on her experience working with various stakeholders to define the relevant population and identify appropriate quality measures for individuals with complex needs.
