Addiction and substance use disorders are growing national issues that can particularly impact individuals with complex needs. Evidence is mounting that the use of peer support can be a critically important component in the treatment of substance use disorders. Practical recommendations about the effective training, capacity-building, and supervision of peer mentors can equip providers with the tools to best provide the necessary support to individuals in recovery.
