Medical-Legal Partnerships (MLPs) are reshaping how the health and legal sectors address the root causes of poor health by integrating legal services into the healthcare setting. This webinar will focus on the critical importance of coalition building for future impact, using examples from the experiences of two national organizations, Camden Coalition and the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership.

Since 2016, these two organizations have collaborated to provide MLP specific content at the Camden Coalition’s national conference, Putting Care at the Center. Not only has this partnership exposed MLP to complex care professionals, it has also helped to advance the larger MLP field.

While these national partnerships are vital to the MLP field, coalitions at the state and local level are equally important. Coalitions have helped catalyze response to federal and state funding opportunities for medical-legal partnership programs.  Coalitions have also led to policy change in a range of domains across the MLP field, including housing protections.  Now, in 2026, the landscape demands that we leverage our relationships to be proactive rather than reactive.

To truly sustain progress and build our future, we have to re-commit to greater organizing and coalition-building, with a focus on statewide coalitions to advocate for change.
